I read of a case where a man with a hiatal hernia was mis-diagnosed as having asthma. I ask this because after eating a big meal, I sometimes have trouble breathing and feel like an asthma attack is starting. Is there a connection between asthma and the stomach and eating too much?
First thing which happens when you eat too much is that the swollen stomach can give an upwarts pression to the lungs and possibly causes dyspnea.
Another fact is that the nervous part of the stomach is connected to the upper cervical vertrebras, an area in which we also find the Glossopharyngeal nerve, important for the pharynx, larynx etc... So yes on both mechanical and nervous way there is a certain "connection" with stomach and breathing apparatus.
