False asthma

Hello

In a private email with Erwin I discussed the possibility that my 5 year old daughter has been admitted to hospital with Asthma which may have been falsely diagnosed. Typical asthma is a problem breathing “out” with a lot of wheezing often audible.

My daughter “seems” to have far more trouble breathing in and almost no trouble breathing out. Her breathing in problem is often accompanied by a racking cough. Ventolin will help but she does not recover unless given a steroid ( redypred / prednisone) which is not nice on anyone. However the prednisone will help her to relax and eventually recover.

As previously discussed the Geserit pressure point method is not able to assist with the quick relief of her problem. In your email you said that she could still be cured.

(1) Is this because of a possible body symmetry problem?

(2) Is there an alternative simple method of relief for this problem and what is it that is actually the problem if it is not asthma??

(3) We currently have nobody in New Zealand who practices this method) If this is the case and I was to purchase the CD /DVD ? Do you think it would be enough to get an experienced osteopath interested enough to learn more? I am well aware that the CD is not suitable for someone who is not trained correctly.

Thanks for any assistance in helping me understand my daughter’s pain and suffering.

Cheers
Ray

Hi Ray,

Sorry it took so long to give you an answer, but last month I got nearly overworked !
I will answer briefly your quetions:

(1) yes she gets a false asthma attack because of her body "asymmetry" problem and more specific because she has a block in certain very specific joints of the spine.

(2) no there is not an alternative way to stop this problem (besides our therapy). Maybe you can try to let her drink a cold glass of water which can help her to get rid of the pharyngeal spasm she has.

(3) Unfortunately we don't have anybody in new Zealand nor Australia who can use our method, but we truly hope this can change in the future. The CD is not suitable for non qualified persons but might be a help for osteopaths. However if they don't have learned our course we can not guarantee any quality, and it is not our responsibility if something will not work out as it should be.

Please keep us informed about the condition of your daughter and maybe you can find an osteopath who will be interested to learn this fantastic therapy.

best regards,

Erwin Hermans

Hi everyone

For those of you who have heard of the false asthma but don’t understand exactly what it is I have done some more investigations based on the initial information listed on this website. The information below is my interpretation of the various information I have found around the internet. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The false Asthma referred to medically as “pharyngeal spasm” is a closing of the muscles around the voice box. It is a common (natural) reflex designed to close the throat and protect the lungs if a foreign body like water or food starts to do down the wrong way. I think most of us have experienced it many times in our lives. It seems that in people like my daughter, this reflex is stimulated out of control and it takes a muscle relaxant or very controlled breathing to get the muscle to relax and go back to normal.

The voice box muscle itself is like a one way valve when it engages. It restricts (very effectively) air or objects going in one direction but opens easily in the other direction. This is why (I believe) my daughter has what they call false asthma. Her breathing is difficult on the inward breath but easy on the outward breath. Which is opposite of a typical asthmatic attack.

On several websites listing this problem they do not refer to it as false asthma or associate it with asthma which is why the information is so hard to find. However they do say the problem can easily be identified by an ear nose and throat specialist doctor. I have yet to take my daughter to a specialist to see what they say. I am worried they might try to put her through an operation or put her on drugs. I will be working through the ideas listed in the Geserit website.

Cheers

Dear Ray,

Sorry to correct you but it is the Gesret method and not Geserit. It is named after Mr. Jacques Gesret the inventor of the therapy :O)

He is the only one who noticed, described and found a solution for what is called the false asthma. In no medical book you will find an explanantion of this pharyngeal spasm. Not one pneumologist ever made a difference in breathing difficulties e.g. breathing in or out. For them it is all: asthma, with all the same remedies: sprays, drugs for the rest of your life.

For the Gesret therapists there is a big difference in a breathing in - or out problem: the organ, the innervation, the cause, the level of blocked vertebra or rib, and of course the manipulation techniques.

Best regards,

Erwin Hermans
